Introduction

So I created this challenge and decided that I should at least give it a go myself.

Season 1

First off I had to pick one of the teams set out in the challenge. After a quick look at the squads I selected.

com_mobileroadie_app_5398.jpeg Roda JC

They did not have a great squad but there were a few players there that I liked the look of. That said, there were major inadequacies in every area of the squad, with that in mind....

Transfers

I payed a little money to patch up my defense by purchasing

Screenshot_20161119-182303.png

Not a great player but decent numbers in some key areas.

I then wanted a decent defensive minded midfielder.

Screenshot_20161119-182308.png

Again not the greatest but has what I need.

I followed this up by bringing in some free transfers.

Not a bad haul for free.

The Season

First we have the Dutch Cup. we worked our way through the competition all the way to the final where we met Vitesse Arnhem.

Screenshot_20161120-203741.png

And won the cup in a 7 goal thriller.

The Eredivisie also went very well, with this match against Feyenoord being my teams finest moment.

Screenshot_20161119-234534.png

Total domination in that game, but where did we finish in the league.

Screenshot_20161120-220926.png

Darn, second. To up the drama the final game was against Ajax too and they beat us 3-0

Career Review

Holland

  • League titles 0/4
  • Cup wins 1/3
  • Champions leagues 0/2

I have at least 4 more years in Holland. Hopefully I can build upon this year's team and results to make headway into the required totals for this challenge.

Thanks man.

Your welcome. Good bargain deals there.

BTW love the new youth system, signing rejects from other teams is kinda fun.

Very tough challenge. Lots of clubs and moving around which is time-consuming if the right club isn't available. Need to plan it well ahead. Looking good so far.

That's why I made the challenge the way it is. Not loads to win but there's some moving about which makes it harder. hoping to get the first title this season.

Season 2

After last year's great showing I am hoping for at least a league title this year.

Transfers

Screenshot_20161122-221210.png

I wanted a long term defensive midfielder so I invested most of my cash plus a rarely used player to get Branco van Boomen. I also brought in a pair of very promising south americans, a decent centre half and a half decent winger for backup and some decent freebies. Their stats are here.

The Season

So firstly I had the Dutch super cup to compete for. It doesn't count towards the challenge but would be an added bonus.

Screenshot_20161122-223241.png

We just won on penalties over the league champs. A sign of things to come?

Next up is the Dutch Cup.  We again made it to the final and faced Feyenoord

Screenshot_20161122-221520.png

Who we happily beat thanks to a new signing scoring a hat-trick. There's cup win number 2 in the bag. One to go.

So the league campaign threw up some difficulties this year with me having to flip through around 4 or 5 tactics with some tough spells, but how did it go?

Screenshot_20161122-221145.png

We win the league by one point over ajax, who really struggled in the first half of the season. league victory one done.

So up last we have the champions league, how did it go?

Screenshot_20161122-221545.png

Lost before even qualifying for the group stage. This could be the toughest part of the challenge.

Career Review

Holland

  • League titles 1/4

  • Champions leagues 0/2

Some decent progress this year but a lot of work to do.

Season 3

Last season we made some headway in the league and cup challenges but failed spectacularly in Europe.

Transfers

This year I concentrated mostly on building some depth in my squad as after a few injuries my bench looked really poor. So these are the guys I brought in.

The Season

Beginning the season with another super cup match

Screenshot_20161125-170201.png

A decent win over Ajax again.

Now moving on to what counts. The Dutch Cup.  can I wipe this off the list this year?

Screenshot_20161125-170218.png

A similar final loss breaks the chance of 3 years in a row.

Next up the league. Could we make it 2 years in a row?

Screenshot_20161125-170232.png

Again no. A tough season with too many draws led to a third placed finish.

And finally how did the champions league go? well as league champions we went straight to the group stage which beats last year without the effort. We then qualified from the group finishing second behind Benfica.

This brought us face to face with Barcelona..... a 1-1 draw in the home leg left me fearful of being turned over in the away leg.

Screenshot_20161125-121448.png

After another 1-1 we got the victory on penalties!

To the next round where things stayed tough with Real Madrid.

Screenshot_20161125-121428.png

Who we squeaked past by 1 goal to face Dortmund.

Screenshot_20161125-121157.png

And swept them aside in the first leg then defended like hell in yhe second. On to the final.... we face Chelsea. Can we end their hopes of another European Champions league title?

Screenshot_20161125-121139.png

YES! Extra time brings us our result. Champions league number 1 in the bag.

Career Review

Holland

  • League titles 1/4
  • Cup wins 2/3
  • Champions leagues 1/2

A tough year but fruitful with us half way to our champions league tally. Let's hope next year we get another couple of titles in the bag.

Season 4

Last year we had European success but missed out in domestic competitions. Hopefully this year we have success all around

Transfers

I went spending this year to improve my squad a little and replace some players who were leaving due to the fact I couldn't afford their contracts.

The Season

So no Dutch super cup this year but the European super cup match is on with Atletico Madrid.

Screenshot_20161126-221515.png

A loss in a close game but it doesn't affect the challenge so I'm OK with it.

Next up is the Dutch Cup once again.

Screenshot_20161126-205335.png

Where we were ejected early by Feyenoord. No cup this year.

How about the league?

It was a close year in the league with a few teams vying for the top spot, but who won out in the end?

Screenshot_20161126-202159.png

We did, only on goal difference too. Phew.

Sooooo now to the champions league. Can the champs retain?

We got through the group stage in second again behind Barcelona. In the first knockout round we face Shakhtar

Screenshot_20161126-225302.png

And bypass them with relative ease.

Next we are set to face Inter Milan.

Screenshot_20161126-205306.png

Who beat us in both legs to knock us out of the competition. No cup this year.

Career Review

The job offers were flooding in this year but I can't move on yet.

  • League titles 2/4
  • Cup wins 2/3

Not the most progress this year but another league title isn't to be sniffed at. Still hoping for more next year.

Tough on those cup losses but man you certainly brought the team to new heights. I know Roda JC well enough to know they're never going to win anything anytime soon :)

The Season

We begin again with the Dutch super cup.

Screenshot_20161128-084149.png

We win after a decent amount of goals and a relatively even match.

Next up the Dutch Cup. We made I through to the final to face Vitesse.

Screenshot_20161128-084122.png

And smashed them 4-0. Happy days, that's the cup portion of Holland passed. Only the champions league and Eredivisie. Speaking of which, how did we do this year?

Screenshot_20161128-084156.png

We absolutely ran away with the title, the team finally lived up to their promise. Could we also win the champions league? We had a tough group with PAOK Athens, Atletico Madrid and Bayern.

Screenshot_20161127-145337.png

But came second thanks to bayern struggling to 3 wins and 3 defeats.

Next up is a familiar foe. Inter Milan. Time for some vengeance perhaps?

Screenshot_20161128-084129.png

Well.....no. They took us down again. This is not over!

Career Review

Again there were job offers galore, however the Holland job hasn't become available yet.

It only goes better after that and you're in season 6 now. You're doing great!

Season 6

This season I could end my time in Holland with a league/champions league double. As long as Inter stay out of the way eh?

Transfers

This year I felt my first team was strong enough so I decided to focus on back up and young players.

The Season

We begin the season with the Dutch super cup once again and we are facing PSV.

Screenshot_20161128-153243.png

Who we handle with a 1-0 win.

Next up is the Dutch Cup.  We don't need it for the challenge but we want it! Again we face PSV.

Screenshot_20161205-132956.png

And beat them 2-0 this time.

This year is a big year for us in that we can hit our Eredivisie target. Did we do it though?

Screenshot_20161205-132916.png

Yes, and with a nice 10 point cushion to boot.

So finally we come to the champions league. A win gets us past the Dutch section of this career anything else means we are here another year. Our group stage kicks everything off.

Screenshot_20161205-133046.png

Porto drop the ball and we qualify from the group under Chelsea. In the first knockout round we face perennial underachievers Arsenal. Having won the home leg 1-0 we only need a draw or even perhaps an away goal to get past the English big boys.

Screenshot_20161205-133031.png

We manage a 1-1 away leg to win 2-1 on aggregate. This brings us face to face with Schalke. We again win the home leg 1-0 so a draw will do us.

Screenshot_20161205-133007.png

And so it does with a 2-2 securing the 3-2 aggregate win. Next up is a tough proposition, Barcelona. They take their home leg 3-2. We are behind but have 2 handy away goals. Can we beat the catalan giants on our own turf?

Screenshot_20161205-132948.png

Yes! we destroy them 4-0 to get to the final. Who do we face though?

The answer is Chelsea! The very team that won our group stage at the beginning of the competition, also the team we won our last champions league final against. This is it. Do we get the title?

Screenshot_20161205-132940.png

Yes! We take it in a 3-2 thriller after going down 1-0 to the Londoners. Our time in Holland is over.

Career Review

Fantastic year with a treble getting us to the end of our requirements. Had more job offers but all came before our champions league win.

As it turns out I've been playing my own challenge wrong. I only needed 1 Champions league title and I only needed to manage any European national team, not just holland. I've missed out on numerous opportunities due to this

Season 7

After 6 years as Roda manager I had managed to score the requisite titles to allow me to move on in my challenge. Therefore I resigned and set away to look for a job in Spain, I had 2 routes. Immediately sign with a side who had just been promoted or wait for a bigger team.

With the thought in mind that Roda(champions league winners) would be looking for a top manager, I chose the latter. Then Roda appointed the Ajax manager and Ajax appointed an unemployed one...... fiddlesticks.

I noticed that the Portugal job was open too now though. They would surely want a top manager. Yes, they signed Jose Mourinho up meaning his old job was available now. Where was he at?

Screenshot_20161205-134401.png

Villareal! Fantastic, a side that were in the champions league too, so I applied.......

Screenshot_20161205-134443.png

I got the job. Happy with this. However, note the date, no chance to buy any players.

Transfers

I brought in a couple of free transfers to bolster the squad. Meli, Fernandez and Cavaleiro were signed by Mourinho and the others who have money paid for them were bought by myself in January.

The Season

We began our run in Spain with a draw against Valencia, then our second game threw up an interesting game. We faced Roda JC in the champions league.

Screenshot_20161206-151841.png

And we were taken down despite controlling the action. A testament to our old team.

Moving on though and back to Spain, we were able to move through the Copa del Rey to the final to face Valencia

Screenshot_20161206-151526.png

And lost 2-1 lucky the cup isn't on the agenda in this tenure in Spain.

Next let's see how we did in the Champions league. As mentioned earlier, Roda were in our group. Along with Man U and Ferencvaros

Screenshot_20161206-151442.png

Unlucky, with the top 2 teams being tough opposition. We fall into the Europa League where we face AC Milan.

Screenshot_20161206-151611.png

And just manage to bypass them by one goal to move on to face Tottenham Hotspur.

Screenshot_20161206-151602.png

And get past them easily enough, the next round throws up Barcelona.

Screenshot_20161206-151548.png

Who sweep us aside with a 6-3 aggregate, out in the quarters but we didn't need to win this cup luckily.

Finally we get to the main event. The spanish league. We have to win it to continue on with the challenge as soon as possible. There are a few tough sides in the league with the biggest being Barcelona and the Madrids. Could we possibly push them aside to climb atop the spanish league table?

Screenshot_20161206-142243.png

Yes we could! A great league run from December through to late March helped secure the league title and our Spain part 1 portion of the challenge. Wow, that was quick, and really quite fun to take the bigger boys down.

Career Review

Great year and this tenure in Spain is already over. Where will next year take us though? Like students have, next will be gap year for me but where at?

Holland

  • League titles 4/4
  • Cup wins 4/3
  • Champions leagues 2/1

Spain (1st tenure)

  • League title 1/1

Season 8

So this year is my gapersonal year. I could easily sit it out and wait to move back to Spain but I have decided to be more proactive in my approach. I decided to try out a job in Germany to prepare for a later portion of this challenge.

I also decided to actively looking for a job on the international scene too.

So with that in mind I managed to get the following 2 jobs

Screenshot_20161206-172225.png

Screenshot_20161206-171015.png

Transfers

I had to address some issues at Wolfsburg. There were only 2 decent strikers and I wanted more attacking midfielders/wingers and a centre half to provide depth.

I brought in the following players

Screenshot_20161207-193445.png

Spoiler

Screenshot_20161207-193459.png

Screenshot_20161207-193454.png

Screenshot_20161207-193449.png

As for Ghana, I got a team full of aging half decent players, some poor players who I had to pick due to a lack of depth (seriously, they're all defensive midfielders) zero Ghanaian Goalkeepers, oh, and Baba Rahman.

The Season

Well as this is a superfluous season I'll just run through it quickly.

The German cup.

Screenshot_20161207-193403.png

Won it.

The Bundesliga.

Screenshot_20161207-193429.png

Won it.

We couldn't win the Europa League however.

And here are a few of the better results and games from this year.

Screenshot_20161207-183834.png

Screenshot_20161207-092910.png

Screenshot_20161207-092148.png

And here is my choice for buy of the season (he won German player of the year)

Screenshot_20161207-193527.png

£14k for 32 goals and 15 assists is a great return.

As for Ghana? Well with no keeper things were hard and we just ended up with a bunch of average results before I resigned prior to the Euros in the hope that a big nation needs a new manager afterwards.

Career Review

Well it was a decent year in all and afterwards fun one at that. So back to Spain for part 2 there and the quest for the Copa del Rey.

Holland

  • League titles 4/4
  • Cup wins 4/3
  • Champions leagues 2/1

Spain (1st tenure)

  • League title 1/1

Gap Year

  • German cup 1
  • League titles 1
  • International failure 1

Back to Spain for a cup challenge (and don't drink the water).
