So now we have Backroom Staff...

What is the best way to get your backroom team right...

Is there a right way to get it right, what is the best combination to have working behind you.

As I always buy the Maxed Out Facilities IAP, I currently have a full complement of staff...4 Coaches and 3 Scouts and Physios

In my coaches I currently have 2 General style, 1 Attacking, 1 Defensive...

Among my scouts I have 1 Bargain Hunter, 1 1st Team Scout and 1 Youth Scout

Among my Physios I have 2 Prevention Specialists and 1 Rehabiltation Specialists...

This has worked for me so far but I was wondering how you guys go about filling your backroom

Hi Mate, regarding your coaches if you have space for four then I would keep them all different, for me my personal preference would be:-

Manager - Fitness

Ass. manager - Motivational

Coach 1 - Defending or General

Coach 2 - Attacking or General (depending on coach 1)

Coach 3 - Youth

Your scouts I prefer 2 X Youth scouts and one First team.  I don't believe the Bargain Hunter one justifies a place as it has never yielded anything for me.

Physio make up yes definitely 2 X Preventative and 1 X Rehabilitation.

Hope this helps?

I'm used to being an attacking coach because of the lack of attacking staff I could find on FMM16. However there's a plethora of attacking coaching options in FMM17 so now I'm experimenting between being a fitness coach and a motivational coach. Therefore my ideal set up would be as follows:

Coaching: Attacking, Defensive, Youth & General / Motivational / Fitness (the last option depending on.. a) what I am & b) who's available)

Scouts: 1st Team, Youth & Tactical Analyst

Physios: Prevention (usually 2) & Rehabilitation

Yeah...

Thanks for your input...

I only actually have the bargain hunter as he is a former player I stayed loyal too

Based on recent explanations by Marc, I think it's best to have one coach of each type. And you want to make yourself an attacking or fitness coach since those affect the most visible and universal stats.

E.... I will offer my old players non-player job. So, my coach team is not well in quality but in good harmony.

I understand. I feel I'm a romantic at times when I make decisions based on hypothetical 'real-life' situations which may not always be the best FMM-wise.

What's cooler than offering say Messi a coaching job when he hangs up his boots? Or Ronaldo at Man U? Robben back to PSV? Such aspects can really add flavor to the game unlike anything else.

In my MU save, I have Ibrahimnovic as an attacking coach (silver badge), Carrick as a defensive coach (silver badge). I also buy Ronaldo back, but he reject my offer of a non-player job. I hope he will change his mind later.

Great stuff! To see those names re-appearing in the news feed commenting on your current squad players who build a relationship with (and respect) these big-name coaches really adds to the game.

I like to use good ex players as coaches.

I currently have Teddy Sheringham, Phil Neville and Alan Smith as Gold Badged Coaches and I got Andres Iniesta on a Bosman who is my Silver Badged Player-Assistant Manager...and Dean Shiels is my Bargain Hunting Scout

I normally stay loyal to players and give them the Backroom Jobs...I also change my coaching staff every few seasons

I've employed Messi twice as coach after finding him kicking around with no club. Both times as a youth coach, but once he had a natural aptitude and the other time it was poor. I'm not sure what effect that has on coaching, so I sacked him straight away (when it was poor). Anyone know how important aptitude is?

Fitness primarily helps improve physical stats whereas motivational coach can help to keep team morale up and help with better attitude for younger player prima donnas.

Aptitude seems to go from poor to normal to natural.  Based on Marc comments in the other thread, I am inferring that whenever the game calls for a coach check, it rolls against level (bronze>silver>gold) with increasing levels of success.  If the check passes, there's a chance the coach may influence a given player and then there is another check against aptitude (poor>normal>natural).  If the check succeeds, you get a nice message about the coach working well with a particular player.

I can imagine these checks are made fairly frequently which means their success rates have to be very low especially because their effects seem to be permanent - if a coach works well with a player, I haven't seen it go away yet.  Which is nice as it rewards longevity and loyalty to both the player and staff.

Thanks for the explanation - it makes sense, although I read in one of the other threads that coaches (not scouts or physios) also have CA and PA levels (which we have no way of guessing through the game). I'd presume Messi probably has high figures (but could be wrong), which makes me wonder which is best: a good coach but poor aptitude OR a poor coach with natural aptitude. I'd love to know which is more important. I won't even bring the badges into it!

Maybe it checks all 3: CA, then badge level, then aptitude. I doubt we'll get confirmation about how this works exactly though.

Oh well, I'm sticking to Gold Level coaches with Natural aptitude from big clubs (presumably the best CA coaches will work at big clubs), but I'll occasionally make an exception for a mega-star like Messi, as long as his aptitude is Natural. I'll just have to trust his CA/PA is good and give him some time to earn his badges.

I do hope they flesh this out in future and give us some indication of CA/PA for coaches. Haha, maybe we'll get a star rating for them after they attend a job interview! :)

For all we know, current coach CA/PA is in there for future database/improvement purposes and the game doesn't check it against anything in this version.

Yeah we just don't know. I will say that after I'd upgraded my training facilities to the max, my youngsters still weren't developing much at all. After I replaced the gold level coaches I'd inherited (at Celtic) with some poached from some of Europe's top clubs, their development shot through the roof!

So personally I think CA is used somehow and I'll stick to my approach of getting coaches from top clubs as they sound have decent CA. Of course I could be wrong, but the difference in development I saw was significant enough to convince me.
