Chat Does Anyone Use Ap Instead Of If/w On Flanks?

All the tactics I see on this forum show two Inside Forwards on the flanks.  There was a thread recently by rseven which revealed that people use Wingers in those spots occasionally as well.  But what about Advanced Playmakers?

APs are common in the midfield by being the attack minded playmakers who link up the attack and create chances.  Can they serve the same role from the flanks?  I'm talking about the guys who have midfield stats but are versatile enough to play from the flanks.  These players are the ones who don't have good crossing to be a W and have better passing/creativity/decisions than dribbling/shooting/movement.

Can APs be effective on the flanks in this match engine to provide width while playing a role their stats are suited for?  Or are they better off as IFs or being played as APs in the midfield?

Funny you should ask since I don't often play APs on the flanks but was forced to in a recent (CC) challenge. As you mentioned, they are much more common in midfield, but since I had little to no creative forces in midfield and needed to create chances for my striker I played APs from the flanks. They were 'wingers' and 'inside forwards' and not accomplished in CM positions but did a respectable job having similar key attributes passing-creativity-decisions.. to a regular AP. It got my striker more goals opposed to having them playing in their preferred role.

I usually tweak the match settings -passing focus- to wherever my APs are playing. That's usually 'center' (or mixed as an alternative) but in this case 'on both flanks'. Not a direct answer to your question but you may find the info useful.

I EME, AP role at wide position will have below behaviours.

1. In attack, he move (stay) at AMC position.

2. In defense, he still stay in middel.

While IF role,

1. In attack, he move from wide to FC position.

2. In defense, he back to wide position.

So, when you set wide AP, you still need think about defense of flank. And wide AP can not provide width, so you need WB to support.

That would be great.  Your diagram is awesome!  Your findings also correlate with the guide Prize linked to above.

Does the W provide defensive width like the IF or not really like the wide AP?

W will protect flank in defense.
