So it begins

ChesterStory_zps9fafb575.jpg

Dear everyone who is reading this!

Ever since I started playing Football manager (beginning with FM08), there has been an underlying urge to start a career with a lower league team. This urge comes with the need to tell people about it and that's why I have made a new topic about the Chester adventure.

I don't know if it is coincidence or not but The United Guy is also managing Chester FC and he is doing a damn good job (let's hope my career with Chester is as good as his or maybe even better). The reason why I chose Chester FC, is just because the have a (new) awesome logo (it's as simple as that)

For information about Chester FC take a look here

The updates will be probably 9 games at a time, the reason for this is that 9 is the number which fit into a photo. I'm not that fast with playing FMH but I think finishing a season will take me less than a week.

What is my goal? Primary defeating a German team in the last minute and secondary defeating Wrexham!

_________________________________________________________________________________________________

5th July 2012,

Damn! Again another football club who declined my job application, reason not enough experience. Luckily the weather is nice and my beer is cold, but will there be a club who will accept my application... pffff.

Otherwise I'm forced to get a office job and as a retired football player, who wants to move, shout and yell at the referee, that is the last thing I want to think of.

"Never gonna give you up, never gonna let you down, never....." haha, I really should change my mobile phone ringtone if I don't want to get rickroll'd by my phone everytime.

~Hallo met Floris..

>Hello with Tony Durkin

~Hello?

>Mr Visser, I am chairman of the football club Chester FC and I would like to inform you that we are looking for a new manager. The board and I think you are the best man fitted for the job of getting Chester FC back to the Conference and maybe even further. We want you to start as soon as possible!

~Wow! wait, what? That is a lot to think about, is it possible to think about the offer mr. Durkin

>Sure mr. Visser call us back within a week with your answer please, have a nice day, bye

~You too, bye

Wow finally a football club! Why did I say "I have to think about the offer"? And how on earth did they get my resume?

>Hello

~Hello mr Durkin, I'm doing it!

>Who is this?..

~Oh excuse me, it's Floris Visser, I'm accepting your job offer.

>Wonderful! How soon can you be here, to talk about the details of your contract and to start managing Chester FC.

~As soon as possible give me a day of two

>Very well

~Bye

>Bye

After a wonderful start I'm getting to know Chester FC and its players. After 12 straight games won and being solid first in the Blue Square Bet North some cracks in the tactics and the team began to show; inadequate passing, too much battles lost in my opinion due to the playing schedule. The draw against FC Halifax was the game in which these cracks could be seen the best, shouting besides the pitch didn't help that much.

A peptalk later the players began to play their own game, the game against Stalybridge was just an exciting match with a lot of chances for both teams, luckily Stalybridge missed a free kick in the 90th minute!

In the third qualification round of the FA Trophy, Bedford was no match for Chester FC a.k.a tiki taka Barcelona defeating them 2-0 at home. Eastleigh was next in the first round of the FA Trophy a fast goal made by Jarman secured the deal for Chester FC

The second round of the FA Cup against Yeovil, the only thing I can say is they kept their heads high and played a very good match but Yeovil clearly was stronger.

And there is was the first game lost against Guiseley. The game against Guiseley was "whatever you don't score yourself, they will do it for you" (I don't know the right English saying but this is roughly translated from Dutch). A lot of chances for Chester FC but Guiseley had more luck.

Luckily revenge is coming fast because in January we play Guiseley in the second round of the FA Trophy.

After a very nice christmas diner with the whole squad we had to play Workington on Boxing day, I think some players were still enjoying the diner because not everyone was sharp but luckily Jarman managed to score the liberating 1-0

We started 2013 just wonderful a 6-0 win home against Gainsborough. If the team keeps playing like that Guiseley will be easy and revenge will be sweet

Finally the day came Revenge day a.k.a FA Trophy second round against Guiseley.

As I wrote in the previous update "If you don't score a goal, they will do it for you". This time it was just like before we hit a lot of woodwork but not the net, but Guiseley did and that's how Chester FC's Cup adventure ended. Luckily we now can focus us on the competition.

The moral of this story is Guiseley away is always difficult.

Droylsden was not "if you don't score a goal, they will do it for you", no definitely not this was more of a "what the hell are we doing?"-game. Droylsden deserved to win today.

To make the team stronger we managed to sign S. Garner, J. Lawlor and J. Dovey on a loan.

R. Black, M. Burns, J. Irving will join Chester FC at the end of the season when there contracts expire, They are all defenders who can play in the centre but also on the left or right side so I can give Baynes and McGinn so rest some times.

I'm still looking for some midfielders who will join Chester FC when their contracts end but up till this moment I haven't found any good midfielders.

For S. Brown, S. Miller and J. Houghton there was no future and I'm happy I sold them.

Will Chester FC solidify their first position in the league?

2013 is already one month old and sometimes the games we play are not as I pictured them, too many things go wrong and I think the team is getting overconfident because we have won a lot of games in the first half of the season. Overconfidence or just bad playing I don't know but I resulted in two unnecessary draws against Colwyn Bay and Bishop's Stortford, a 4-2 win against Gloucester is okay but we were 4-0 ahead and I'm not happy about the way we conceded 2 goals in 4 minutes.

The real wake-up call came against Brackley, we lost 0-2 and we also lost our top striker Jarman for 4 weeks.

Luckily because of our strong position in the league there was no immediate thread but this shameful playing shouldn't last too long. The players felt the same way and played a very good game against Bradford PA which ended in a draw (3-3).

From that moment on the players knew what had to be done and the Seals started to play like they did in the first half of the season. Boston United was the first team to notice that, Oxford City was second.

We knew it was only a matter of time before we would be champions because the other teams were also playing bad and losing point so after the game against Oxford City we were sure of play-offs.

After doing some math we realized we were only 1 points away from winning the Blue Square Bet North League.

Vauxhall Motors was next:

After that I've tried some new tactics and formations, I also gave a few talents the time to get some experience in the first squad.

Luckily I got rid of the Guiseley curse by defeating them at home with 1-0

K. Deery, G. Brennan, R. Bayly; all midfielders agreed to join Chester FC. I'm very happy with these signings and I think they will help Chester FC in the conference.

After a wonderful season, in which we finished on the top of the league table and achieved promotion to the conference! The board was happy with the way I managed Chester FC but they should thank the team instead of me.

A new season, a new league, and some new players. In the previous updates I've already told that five new players would join Chester FC because their contracts ended. These five players were only the beginning, we managed to sign eleven new players! (Three on loan, two players will join in january and six signings in the summer) (see 'Transfers')

The players who left were either old, not good enough or got signed by another club.

After struggling in the friendlies with new formations/players/kick takers, Chester FC was ready for a season in the conference. I've made a promise to the board that I will reach play-offs, maybe to soon to make such promises but as an ambitious manager I want to reach the top (of course with Chester FC) as soon as possible.

We started at home against Macclesfield, the bookmakers predicted a win for us but only because of the home advantage. And so it begins (part 2)

Photo04-07-13114802_zpsfbcf07e7.png

The team played wonderful, everything worked; the pasing, the finishing, the position play. A good start in the Conference!

After a good start, we forgot to score against Forest Green Rovers. For no reason we missed a lot of chances, I blame it on the sun and the nice weather.

Luckily we managed to keep our heads focused on playing football and not the weather because we got some good results the following weeks.

Against Stockport everything seemed to work exactly as it should. But then disaster struck a red card for Baynes and a very good day for D. Whitehead. I was shocked, how is it possible that if we lose one man we forget how to defend.

Stockport - Chester FC

Photo04-07-13224620_zpsc684ba2d.png

And when you least suspect it, there is a surprise for you.

AFC Wimbledon wants me

Photo04-07-13230028_zps53b10036.png

AFC Wimbledon is a great team and how much I like them. I can't leave Chester FC (not now)!

After a good period in which we managed to win some nerve-racking games, I came to the conclusion that I had to replace the goalkeeper, so from now on M. Fearon is the new first keerper.

Finally there was two real clashes in the conference, Mansfield Town FC - Chester FC and Chester FC - Grimsby Town FC.

The second clash of the titans, the first position is at stake in this game:

Photo05-07-13222356_zpsea65f250.png

Unlucky but the stats were in our favour and so was the whole game, we had some good chances but from time to time you come across a goalkeeper who has a very good day.

Transfers

Photo06-07-13223355_zpscb1e2cf3.png

Photo06-07-13223349_zpsb716bb7f.png

The players who are mysteriously missing on the transfer schedule are J. Lampe and C. Harriot

N. Bignall: Reading didn't renew his contract, and because Williams left I needed a new striker next to Jarman and my upcoming talent B.Mills

Photo04-07-13094355_zps69708f8e.png

R. Black: I'm so happy that I managed to sign R. Black, he will be the replacement of McGinn (I won't renew his contract). He's preforming very well.

Photo04-07-13094419_zps1f63339a.png

C. Harriott: a top player on loan from Charlton Athletic, he has been outstanding for Chester FC

Photo04-07-13094335_zps8a8c2e3f.png

T. Darlington: a decent back-up for my defense to replace the tired players because of the many games that we have to play in the Conference

Photo06-07-13104158_zps0d946c42.png

M. Haines: He is the young replacement of P. Linwood, who went to Motherwell. M. Haines is a young defender with a lot of potential in my opinion.

Photo04-07-13095224_zps37808708.png

J. Lampe: The scout said J. Lampe had a lot of potential, and after Collins went to Newport I needed a new young defender.

Photo04-07-13094413_zps5ee31deb.png

N. Luscombe: Hartepool didn't renew his contract, so for Chester FC he is one of the new signings to replace the players who left and to give the team a new young and fresh impulse.

He is developing very good and has already scored some important goals.

Photo04-07-13094402_zpsd266826d.png

K. March: Swansea didn't renew his contract, so I would have been a fool if I didn't try to sign him. Luckily his agreed with the offer I made. His young and a promising player.

Photo04-07-13094351_zpsf17e2cd1.png

A. Stewart: The same story as Darlington, a free loan always come in handy

Photo04-07-13123706_zpse1a8e3a3.png

R. Vauls: this loan has been changed into a transfer, he has being playing solidly for me and with his 23 years, I think he has a lot of room to develop.

The season with Chester FC in the Blue Square Bet Premier League is now six months underway and we're doing still great!

The team is preforming great and the new signings are showing off, hopefully they keep playing like that. In the previous update we were 4 point behind Grimsby Town, it took us two months to regain the first position in the league. Thank you Macclesfield for draw level in the last minute against Grimsby Town.

The FA Cup is going very good; first defeating Dorchester in the FA Cup 4th qualification round and then we played in the first round against Welling:

84416482-6327-430F-8B04-12228A085932-773

It was a very tough game away, thank you for scoring in the 90' minute. Now we have to finish it at home!

I think we managed to finish it. Chester FC is through to the second round of the FA Cup!

D49F2193-879E-4610-A5F1-0D49906CFF1A-773

Damn, just our luck.

Chester FC is always trying to improve their squad and that's why J. Reeves (loan) and S. Kelly (free) join Chester FC. J. Reeves is another young midfielder who will replace tired players and from time to time play his matches. He has very solid stats so he fits right in.

S. Kelly is a full decent back who will replace Vauls, when his loan ends.

Fearon is not first keeper anymore, Danby is back on his spot.

To improve the goalkeeping spot in the team Chester FC is currently negotiating with G. Fernandes (Benfica) to join Chester FC when his contract end.

Looking back on the past six months, the only thing I can do is to maken a huge complement to the lads. The regained the first position in the league and did not lose focus even without the pressure of our concurrents.

And sometimes when we lost vital points the other teams also had an off day, I think it is time to keep the Good Luck Gods happy with another sacrifice.

I think winning the Blue Square Premier League and the FA Trophy must be enough to satisfy them at least another season, when Chester FC plays in the Npower League 2

Too bad we couldn't preform a working magic trick against Southampton but all the other magic tricks worked just fine in the FA Trophy. Salisbury are still licking their wounds after a 7-1 defeat against Chester FC.

Deery was voted Blue Square Premier League player of the year. Which he deserves, in 48 matches, he scored 24 times (some of those goals were really important) and give 15 assists.

I'm very happy we managed to sign A. MacDonald on a free transfer, I took a long time plus a good conversation before he agreed with our terms. (a salary of 400 a week instead of 900 a week).

Ever since he has been playing outstanding (in 18 appearances, he scored 5 times and gave 7 assists), keeping Hankin on the bench.

Moving on:

Next season Chester FC in the Npower League 2, things are getting pretty serious in my opinion (correct me if I'm wrong). Luckily for us Wrexham ended 16th last season so the clash of mini England against mini Wales can finally be played.

The fans don't have to wait that long:

The transfer window is open and we have to improve our squad without losing vital or useful players.

All I can say at the moment is that we managed to sign 6 new players, lost 5 players and are still negotiating with 2/3 players. In the next update you'll get an overview of all the transfers.
