My Attempt-Part One

After seeing the previous attempt use two strikers in the one season, I thought there was a good opportunity for me to follow suit. So without any further ado (I like saying that), let's get right into the season.

 

The Story of the Season

My chosen striker for the first half of the season was Christian Benteke. I had to sell a bit to raise funds (and couldn't offload the former strikers in the reserve team), but eventually got my man.

 

Benteke got off to a good start, scoring as we secured the Super Cup. A nice start to the season. Unfortunately things took a slight downward turn, with a shock early loss to Cordoba.

 

 

But big wins against Malaga and Barcelona got us back on track. A slow Champions League start saw us in danger of missing qualification after a loss to Tottenham.

 

 

We were off to a flying start in the league, taking advantage of slow going from our cross-town rivals and Barcelona.

 

 

We got past Valencia in the cup and a 3-0 reverse against Tottenham sent us through to the knockout rounds in Europe.

 

 

Things started to slow down around the Christmas break, and a loss to Real Sociedad had the other Real breathing down our necks in the league. So how did Benteke get on?

 

 

Pretty good! With one striker crossed off the list, the search began for another one, and it took a little longer than I would have liked. But eventually someone was found.

 

 

Not my first choice by any means, but he'll have to do. There was a busy second half of the season in store...

The Story of the Season-Part Two

Welbeck was welcomed to the club with a triple header against Barcelona; the fourth, fifth and sixth times we had played them in the season.

 

 

And we won them all! That really shows our dominance over Barcelona this season, although it was a tough initiation for Welbeck.

 

 

Chelsea were no match for us in the Champions League, while Welbeck grabbed some much-needed goals against Valencia. Despite this, the loss to Sevilla left Real Madrid right behind us, still.

 

 

Tottenham failed again in Madrid, but things were beginning to look very tight. Very, very tight in fact, with Welbeck needing a further 11 goals.

From now on I'm going to give you an update every game. If you don't like it, close the spoiler and skip to the end. But I found it exciting.

Welbeck fired us to another trophy with a beautiful hat trick. That's 22 goals down, 8 to go.

 

He didn't manage one against Sporting as the team grabbed an important win. Still 8 goals left!

 

Another English side in the Champions League, and Welbeck scores another goal. Only seven to go!

 

Welbeck scores again but the team can't get a win! It's getting tight, with six goals needed from a maximum of five games!

 

He's scored two more! And we're in the final! Now it's just four goals from four games.

 

A scoreless draw against Sevilla really hurt us. In fact, they were the only team in the league we were unable to beat up to that point. Four from three.

 

Two goals! He's within reach! But with two goals needed against Real Madrid and Bayern, can he do it?

Good work DB. Continuing the legacy  . I was quite disappointed you chose Welbeck, coz though he seems good in the stats part. He is just as bad he is in real life in the game. With the tactic I use now, in which I score TONS, the guy got 28 in 50+ games. Not only on one occasion but almost 6. I guess you also found out how good he is. Welbeck, I feel, is a joke in football. Why wouldn't he be, 200+ games and 45 goals*. Great work nonetheless.

The Vibe Atletico Madrid Community Challenge - Dirtboy

Before I go onto my update, Dirtboy sent over the save just before his save had finished completely so here are the seasonal awards from his save

Danny Welbeck took the Spanish Player of the Year Award with Musa second.

Vukovic was named runner-up in the Spanish Young Player of the Year Award.

Dirtboy was also named as Liga BBVA Manager of the Year.

Now onto my season...

So looking at the squad as whole I felt we were in good shape but I needed to re-enforce a few areas. I was keen to play my 4-3-3 formation that has served me so well in my Triple Threat Challenge at Atletico, I know this sounds a gamble as I guess most of the players before me had one striker but I knew it worked well in Spain and its been most consistent tactic for goals and trophies.

So with that in mind I needed to shape the squad. We were actually over wage budget when I took over, thanks Dirtboy! Joking. So I shipped a few out and boosted my midfield as my tactic puts a lot of strain on the midfield three.

My first striker was someone I had used before and should be in his prime, step forward........
Haris Seferovic

He cost just £13.75m from Real Sociedad.

Spanish Super Cup

I didn't start off too well, a 3-1 agg defeat against Real. Run into a super keeper in the second leg, hope that's not an omen of things to come. 26 shots over two legs and just one goal from debut boy Verratti.

European Super Cup

We get revenge for our Super Cup defeat by lifting the European version with a comfortable win, thanks mainly to a Musa brace.

Liga BBVA

Seferovic hits four past Getafe, just what we like to see!

After 10 games, we have a perfect record and we were flying...

Real are sent packing again and the team are playing out of their skin.

European Champions Cup

We enjoy a smooth run in the group and hit Zenit for five in the final game. Just the one narrow defeat to Inter as we topped the group.

So Seferovic hit his 30 goals with ease in 24 games by the middle of December. He ended up with 32 goals in 28 games. So it's now on the lookout for striker number 2.

His half season goals were enough to crown Seferovic with the Ballon D'or!

Club World Championship

We lift another title as we defeat Toronto in the final but it should have been more comfortable.

Striker Number 2 - Jesé Rodríguez Ruiz

I knew I wanted to try for a home grown talent but we had already used Rodrigo and Morata but I found Jesé playing in France for Stade Rennais FC? So I picked him up for a cheap £4.8m (Big club release) and hoped of the best as he wasn't a natural striker but had all the right attributes.

Liga BBVA

Jesé's first game and our first defeat! 3 shots, 2 goals...!

So our run of straight wins ends at 16.

February saw us go goal crazy, Jesé hitting 7 in two games!

After 30 games we are running away with the league, 100 goals already. Way better than I expected.

Our unbeaten run ends at Real. A red card didnt help us though.

Spanish Cup Final

Another cup in the bag as again Real are dealt with thanks to a Correa brace.

DISASTER!! Jesé is ruled out for 6 months....

...........But luckily he had already hit his 30 goals as I forgot to keep track! Phew!

Liga BBVA

We retain our league title with ease, 100 points, 100 goals and 102 goal difference. I think this is my record high for any save in FMH15! What a league season.

Champions League Final

After guiding my way to the final, we faced Liverpool outwith our main goal threat but we clung on to hold out and lift the trophy for a second year running.

Player Awards

Correa's outstanding form earned him the Spanish Player of the Year Award with Jesé second.

Our young back up striker Simon took the Spanish Young Player of the Year Award with Rossi second.

Another Liga BBVA Manager of the Year award after a great season.

Player Stats

So Jesé topped the goal scoring charts with Seferovic and Musa just behind. Correa also nearly hit 30 goals. Verratti was a great signing, pulling the strings in midfield with 26 assists with Gaya just behind with 25 from left back!

Manager Stats

So close to a perfect season, just defeat in the Super Cup. The team played out of their skin, I didn't expect the team to perform that well.
