Season 3 Review

Board Expectations

The board expected us to put on a serious challenge for the league title and grab trophies so he gave us a transfer budget of £15m.How stingy,I thought.

Summer

One thing I'll assure you of is this season has saw a rather quiet transfer period passed by.

As defensive midfield back up for Garmash was urgently needed,I settled out in search of a player who meets my requirements.I finally found a talented Dutch defensive midfielder who was dwelling at FC Utrecht.Yassin Ayoub was snapped up for £8m in a part exchange deal where Abdelhak Nouri was going the other way.

The other thing is,I also needed some pacy wingers so I got a double bargain in Ola John and Luciano Narsingh coming from SL Benfica and PSV Eindhoven respectively.

Off to the shipments now...

To be honest with you,there weren't any sales in the summer but Tobias Sana and Nick Viergever were released because we no longer needed their services.(Oddly enough,Viergever,Nouri and El Ghazi ended up in the same club,which is FC Utrecht.)

Winter

Sheraldo Becker was sold to FC Telstar for £625k ,well that's it...

 

Dutch Super Cup

We faced arch rivals Feyenoord where the winner of this match would get the domestic bragging rights.

Season Summary

It didn't started with the league first,we had to endure a tough course of European games after we finished in 2nd spot last time out.

Our first game was the first leg of the UEFA Champions League 3rd Round Qualifying against Dynamo Kyiv but we lost 3-1 on aggregate and thus we were eliminated to the Europa League.Just when I thought we had one foot in the competition the first leg of the playoff let us down,we lost 4-3 at Stuttgart,but we did won 1-0 back at Amsterdam and we prevailed on away goals.

Back to the league,you might as well remember the dreadful feeling we had last season after finishing as league runners up(but you don't really need to   ,this season,however,was a different story,my new tactic worked out just perfect and we were sailing through the league with ease,and many pundits,at the end of December,reckoned Ajax will run away with the title easily.We were on an amazing run of 15 straight victories and 20 unbeaten games,until this....

With the league title sealed,we wanted to win the Dutch Cup too.

The journey wasn't easy as we also defeated Twente 4-1 In the quarterfinals and De Graafschap to make it an AZ Alkmaar vs Ajax Amsterdam final,did we win the cup?

We did! And there's Zivkovic again! 

Now,onto our European campaign.

In the Europa League,we were drawn into Group I with Wolfsburg,Panathinaikos and Zilina.I finished as the group winner with 13 points but got knocked out 2-2 on aggregate by away goals in the Round of 32 by eventual winners CSKA Moscow.

 

Richairo Zivkovic 1KC

After a tense debate on whether Zivkovic could complete the 1000 goals, it was time for the young lad to show everyone what he was capable of,in terms of circumstances,I set a target of 70 goals for him,could he reach it?

Nothing less,domestic and continental progress must be improved,the budget?

Transfer Report

Summer

The biggest signing this year has to be the signing of Dutch wonderkid Hidde Ter Avest from FC Twente for £14.25m,overpriced, might be,but I can tell you he's a beast in right back.Defence was a main priority if we were to seek success,so I snapped up Cheick Tiote(A Toon   ) from the Magpies for £3.2m.

 

Then comes attacking duo Theo Bongonda and Steven Berghuis from Heerenveen and AZ Alkmaar for a total price of £10.2m.

 

The very last signing of the window was this Italian keeper (who I believe is a regen of Gianluigi Buffon) from AS Roma for a hefty 5.5m and immediately proved his worth by providing splendid performances and in the process pushing Jasper Cillessen out of the starting line-up.Oh yeah,his name is Fabio Russo.

If there were ins then there must be outs,look,I'm going to make this as brief as possible to keep it convenient to read.

Jesus Corona,Mickey van der Haart,Niklas Moisander, Lasse Schone and Marko Vejinovic all left while some B team players were released after their contracts expired.

I did had quite a few decent youth academy products so I decided to loan them out,they were Pieter Bos,Paul de Jong,Niels van Haaren and Toni Bakker. Be sure to look out for them in a few years time.

In the meantime,let's stick to the present..

 

Season Summary

We were on a hunt for the 4th successive Dutch Super Cup title and we got our heads high on our opponents,FC Twente,perhaps that's what caused our downfall.

Nope,this time I wasn't joking as far as I'm concerned,we weren't able to catch our feet and Twente’s fast paced game meant they ended our Super Cup streak.

 

 

 

 

 

A disappointing start to the campaign meant we went into the league with the blues of that Super Cup defeat.For almost the entire season,we were second best to PSV Eindhoven,until the latter stages of the season,

until our final game..

It couldn't had been any tighter. 

 

We had the league title in our bags,so was the Dutch Cup too much for an asking?

Yep,it was. The team that we had beaten in the final last season got one better of us and they had to do it in the final 5 minutes of extra time…

 

You might as well thought we wouldn't do any better in the Champions League and you were right,we finished 3rd in the group to Barcelona and Shakhtar Donetsk.We were once again in the Europa League.

We did pleasingly well in the knockout stages,eliminating FK Austria Wien,Napoli and Fiorentina,until we faced Arsenal in the semifinal and all doubts were raised as to whether we're going to advance to the final,and the 1st leg result had some questions answered alright.

It was Real Madrid..

But why would Real end up in the Europa League in the first place? It had me confused.

Have you have had any trouble with Zivkovic committing to a new contract? I had to sell him in my save as he wouldn't sign a new deal no matter what I offered?

As far as I'm aware, no. 

He always wants to move to big clubs but I just let that go and praise him and after a while he would stop complaining and that's when I could offer him a contract.

We put back our disappointment last time against Twente and beat Heerenveen on penalties after an unconvincing 2-2 draw.

UEFA Super Cup

As we met with last season's Champions League winners Barcelona,the odds were heavily stacked against us,but how did we fare?

We approached the league on high confidence however we didn't underestimated our opponents and In the end this was how it ended.

In the Dutch Cup,we were very lucky as all of our arch rivals were already eliminated early on so we didn't needed to worry about any obstacles blocking our way from winning it again.The final was between Vitesse and us.

At the UEFA Champions League ,we were drawn into Group E together with Chelsea,Galatasaray and Dinamo Zagreb.

We advanced to the knockout stage after finishing 2nd in the group to Chelsea.The Round of 16 draw saw us face guess who?.....  BARCELONA…  For God sake,it had to be them…

 

We did however,managed to beat them on away goals and set up a quarter final clash with Juventus.

This time,we weren't so lucky however…

Season 6 Review

Board Expectations

This year,either the chairman had struck a lottery,or he just took the money in his safe without his wife knowing,because he gave us a mouth watering transfer budget of £60m to spend.

As usual,success in Europe and everything else.

We faced PSV Eindhoven in our sixth consecutive Super Cup game,hoping to secure to secure 5 out of the last 6 titles available.

Season Summary

The league was a breeze as we only suffered 2 defeats during the entire season and sealed the title in early April.

The Dutch Cup,was well,a different story though…

First things first..

We topped Group E ahead of Man City,Sporting Lisbon and Slovan Bratislava.

We beat AS Roma,Liverpool until we were halted by Los Blancos in the Semifinals (our best ever run in Europe  ) ,although I wasn't that upset(you should know why  ).

Poor Ziv had a miserable run last season and he looked all out of his spirits at the start of this turn and I couldn't blame him otherwise,let's just see how he does..
