Vibe Why I've Stepped Down - Ashez

Why I've Stepped Down

Before we begin I want to say this isn't about having my ego rubbed, I don't need that and if I did I wouldn't have lasted as staff as long as I did. I'm posting this because I feel I need to explain my decision. A lot of you here are my friends and I want to let you all know why I'm stepping down while doing some reminiscing, please feel free to reminisce with me as we've had some good times.

My stepping down is now official and it is a relief if I'm honest. Come December I'd have been staff five years which is rather scary, I still remember that excitement the day Dec offered me my first position of Youth Coach all those years ago. I still have the PM with SamHardy created that day (14 December 2011) as he congratulated me and that PM is still in use today with over 12,750 replies as we've become good friends over the years. In truth it's the friendship I'm most grateful for as I see many faces here as true friends, people like Leroy, Sam, MerlionMaple, AK, Scott, Dec, Liam, Grave, Prize and AnfieldSquirrel have made this experience all worth while. I'd come to Vibe to socialise with these people and the many more I've not mentioned or those who've slipped my mind over the years as we were a family, it's just a shame so many on that list aren't around anymore to see how much they mean to me.

The obvious question to ask is why have I decided to step down now? The truth of the matter is I've wanted to a few times, most strongly sometime during 2015 and around 2016's release but at those times I allowed myself to be talked into staying. I always said if I ever stepped down it would be with a bang, back in those days I never imagined my love of FMM could nosedive so heavily. That is the real reason this decision was made as since 2014 my enjoyment of the game has taken a massive hit, I still want to play the game, I still love the game but I just can't enjoy it anymore. Have I changed? Sure but so has the game and at this point FMM isn't worth all the time and effort to me anymore, I'm not dedicating my life to a poor game with so many issues and getting nothing back in return anymore. The final nail in the coffin was with the "news" 2017 wouldn't be the totally new game we needed, my hatred of 2016 is no secret and for me to be posting content here I need to be playing the game which is why I've achieved so little this year. 2016 has been a massive flop for me personally and that's because I've not enjoyed playing the game so I didn't enjoy writing about it, all I've posted this year is a handful of articles and 2.5 careers, I used to average a new career a month. I knew carrying on in this vain for another year wasn't good for me but it also wasn't good for Vibe.

For Vibe to make it through this year it needs the staff to be pushing in the same direction and my negative outlook on the series and future of the game wasn't going to benefit anyone. Don't think for a second that I took this decision lightly as it tore me apart for weeks (as Dec and Sam can back up), some days I got so wrapped up in thought about stepping down I was a depressed wreck. Vibe really does mean a lot to me and I'm gutted that I had to make this decision but in the end it was in the best interests of Vibe so I had to. I'd like to wish the eventual new staff team all the best in the future.

I have so many amazing memories on this site but my careers are my pride and joy. Saves like "Ashez's Wonder Seasons", "Journey of Borja and Pedro Cunha", "Goal Challenge Inception", "Rivaldo and Pele double trouble", "Challenge Ashez", "CR7 1KC", "Colin Sale 1KC" and many more I hardly remember and those i'll never forget. Going off topic for second I actually debated about getting a digital photo frame and putting every single career screenshot I ever took onto it to have a slideshow collection of my history on Vibe, sad and incredibly geeky but this place has been a massive part of my life.

I also need to thank two people as without them none of this would have been possible. The obvious person to thank is Dec who has been a massive guidance along this journey and a joy to work with. He saw something in me way before I took Vibe even remotely seriously and he really helped groom me into who I am today, sounds soppy but it's true. Secondly I really owe Rafa a lot, many of you wont remember Rafa but back in the day he was my idol, he inspired every single thing that I did here, the word legend is thrown around a lot in modern times but Rafa is a true legend in the history of Vibe. There were times when I'd post something and I'd lose my mind if Dec or Rafa posted a comment, it was like getting a well done off a celebrity. If I remember correctly it was Rafa I replaced as a full on coach and I know I never got close to filling his boots but hopefully my comments managed to bring the same joy and excitement to you guys. I think that's why my post count is so high, I knew that rush from receiving a comment so I never held back in letting people know I enjoyed their work. All these years on and I still hold Rafa in high regard, hopefully five years down the line people wil still remember Rafa while also remembering me.

Which brings me on to my last point, am I leaving Vibe completely? It's a difficult question to answer as I do believe my staff role has kept me here during this tough period of the game but for now I'll say I'm going nowhere. I love this community and I still want to be apart of it, I can't promise I'll be posting careers or articles for you guys to enjoy but for the time being I can promise I'll be here reading your work and getting involved with your discussions. 2017 is going to be a long year and I can't guess how I'll take to it, in an ideal world my pressure free role here will allow me to get back into the game so I can once again share my journey's with you but without 2017 in hand it's impossible to say, if I was certain I'd still be posting content I wouldn't be stepping down. For now I'm here but I can't predict what the future will bring.

With a heavy heart and half a tear in my eye I also have to thank you all, Dec gave me the position but without all you guys commenting and supporting me I wouldn't have got this far. This community is amazing, just look at everything we've achieved! If you're reading this and not an active member I encourage you to get involved, Vibe is a magical place and it's something you shouldn't be missing out on.

Thanks again for everything,

Ashez.

I was really gutted when you made the decision but I understand why you did it and I'm glad you did. I could see how upset you were with the game and the stress you felt and I didn't want you to have that weight on your shoulders. You've been a great help and inspiration over the years and I think I speak on behalf of the community when I say thank you. Without you the community wouldn't be as good without you.

On a personal note I would like to thank you, it was a dream to work with you. I hope you stick around and keep in touch.

Thanks again.

Thanks for all you have done Ashez. All the thoughts and feelings you have towards Rafa are mirrored in the feelings many of us newer members have towards you.

I completely understand how you feel and I truely hope that now the pressure to post is off you can relax into 2017 and find that spark.

I have never and will never download anything from vibe, I don't get involved in the game sharing saves or the interactive side of things. What I do is enjoy the challenges and careers both playing my own and following others. You have been by far the most inspirational person in these areas during my time on vibe and I hope your best is yet to come.

I completely understand why you have made this decision however and hope that you can start enjoying the game again and will stick around the site.

Id like to say a massive thank you to you. We have out FMM chat on twitter which we have all grown close on and learnt alot about each other and unfortunately your love for LFC still makes me sick to this day. However if you didnt press me into posting on here (even tho I havent posted much) I would not of been made aware of the talent on this site, whether it is the challenges or just general help it is all a worthwhile read.

Keep your head up high mate

That cracked me up more than it should have! Well played!

I'm delighted you decided to comment as I also owe an awful lot to you. You are the person that invented the 1KC on Vibe and we know it's the challenge I fell in love with. Without you my love of the game might not have developed as it did, I might not of had the journeys I did, for that I thank you Scott :D.

Can't speak highly enough of you as a person and a member of the site, as Scott said you have inspired numerous people over the years so congrats on a great time as staff.

Thanks for the kind words Sam and thank you for tutoring/mentoring me when I first got the call, you certainly paid your part!

Thank you so much, that really means a lot as if I've managed to inspire people to play/think about the game differently or in new ways my mission has been a success. Constantly pushing myself has had its side effects of getting to the point where I struggle to push the game personally but if I've managed to inspire others in the challenge playing community I'm honestly delighted. The careers forums were my home and I'd love to get back to that.

Haha, atleast I'm not a Manc :P. Vibe is an amazing place and it's great I managed to show you this wonderful place. Hopefully you feel like getting more involved here as the release of 2017 should be exciting, especially with Vibe's new staff team taking form.

Thanks again lads for sparing the time to leave a comment, it really does mean a lot.

I've not been here that long, but it's been very clear to me that you have been a driving force behind much of this site's content. I totally get what you meant about having someone like Rafa reply to a comment, Ive felt exactly the same every time you've replied to mine.

Happy 'retirement' ?

It's great to know I've still managed to have an impact on new members even if I've been disappointed with my own performance.

It's strange getting "butterflies" from a comment on here but I really used to be so happy, excited and even nervous to see what they had to say lol. Knowing I've managed to pass that feeling onto other members to experience has really made my day, it's made this tough decision easier to stomach so thank you :D.

Thanks for all of the stuff you did for the site mate, When i found the site for the first time i remember that one of the things I enjoy the most was reading your careers, I even went to find some of your old careers played in the PSP, they all were very entertaining, and I hope your joy for the game returns someday.

I really hope this decision leads me back down this path, posting careers and reading others is the reason I'm here, I had to post content for my role yet it was rarely something I enjoyed doing. I think my favourite year for FMM is 2013, the mobile version was somewhat broken but it was so much fun and when I was tired of that I could jump into the PSP game for a new experience while still producing saves for you guys. It was a constant back and forth between the two versions and I loved it haha, I do really miss the PSP game as it had so much depth.

I want nothing more, the worst part about not enjoy the game is not being able to post content for you guys. It is a double edged sword because I'm always looking for that new idea to stand out which does lead to a number of dead ends. I had three big ideas for 2016 but I could only get the one to work (triple 1kc), the other two drove me mad as everytime I thought I cracked it something went wrong. Not gunna lie that's likely plays a part in my hatred of 2016, if I kept things simple I might have enjoyed the game a lot more but that's just not me haha. Thank you for still managing to inspire me to play the game even when I've been at my lowest, your careers have been outstanding this year.

Jeeeeeeez, cut the crap already. You take this stuff waaaaay too seriously.

Of course, if you'd have thought to mention me (which you didn't! :@) I'd probably be saying something like:

It was great having you around. I remember you joining the team, being all motivated and stuff. But nobody really likes overachievers, so maybe it's for the best that you're going. I mean, a couple of thousands of posts, hundreds of careers, what's that really mean, ya know?

But cutting the crap, I felt this coming (yes, I've been lurking around) but it's still a shocker to see you've actually pulled the plug. Perhaps now it's time to share that one tactic with me? You know, that one that you never wanted people to know about? ;)

Have fun at whatever is next for you, mate. And give the Vibe regards to your little brother (is he still little though?)

The second I saw your name I knew I was in for some abuse haha, good to see you posting again. Brings back memories of the good old days! Which reminds me i forgot to save your naked photo, since my key to the staff room has been handed in I'll never get to look upon it again :(. Maybe I could join the exclusive double staffer club in the future, only you and Mike members right?

Pulling the trigger was tough, tougher than it should have been but it needed doing. I assume you mean the CR1000 tactic? Hmm. Maybe that will be my final ever post, unfortunately it's not worked since 2013 but I do try it every once and a while to see if I can get it working.

Not so little anymore, already 12 and 13 in December! He has also stopped playing FMM with things like FIFA UT and whatever else filling the void. On the off chance he does play he will still ask me if I'd post it for him so Grave can see it, saying that reminds me of that save you two had, it was brilliant and an honour to play a season for you, IIRC I ruined the save under your instruction :p.

Mate, you want to steer clear of that two time staffer thing :P

Can't remember anything I cocked up more. But I was having the same problem back then that you're having now. I'm back at it again though, trying my hand (and succeding) at the EME with United. Feels like a breath of fresh air if I'm honest; big fan of the EME. Feels a lot more like the full FM engine does.

If they can iron out some of (what to me are) the minor bugs, I might be persuaded into posting again. I've got some ideas anyway.

And yes, I do remember you sticking it to Archie :D Finest days of my Vibe career those were. Perhaps we should bring some of the guys together again and do a one-off group save? Craft some whacky story around it, like we used to.

It would take major changes in my personal view and the game for me to even consider it so I wouldn't worry about that anytime soon, your exclusive club is safe for now!

I do like the EME but I can't see past its problems, I'm somewhat hoping a part of that was my involvement here meaning I was more critical and unforgiving. To be honest I've posted my views on both engines countless times so I don't see the point in redoing that here, however I'm delighted you've managed to find some fun in the game again. I need to get back to seeing the game as fun and not as a content producing tool. My role here meant I had to dream big to post hype articles and whatever else which I think has led to me getting lost along the way. I have what the game is verses what I'm constantly thinking it should be kind of dilemma, I notice an issue and my instinct is to pick it apart in a post instead of just ignoring it, like coaches etc.

It would be good to see you and the other older members posting again, I've said before that a lot of people I'd call friends from back in the day have left and at times I do feel like the old guard looking in instead of feeling involved. Maybe that's me being silly but this thread was meant for me to express all my feelings towards leaving the staff team. Look at the group we had around 2011-13 and we had a laugh every day, we all commented on everything and we were all friends, as the site has got bigger and the game has got worse I sometimes feel that close community we had has got lost.

I'll certainly keep that in mind for 2017's release depending on how well everyone takes to it, it could be a lot of fun!

The tears are real. Was hoping to see you change your mind but I guess if it feels best for you then thats how its gonna be. Hopefully 2017's stress free release can bring back that love you once had and I know how difficult its been for you to try and get careers etc posted when you just weren't enjoying the game.

Hope to see you back around these parts, posting careers that everyone will read and love as always. Vibe wouldn't be the same without your presence.

All the best mate, stay in touch!

I'm going nowhere anytime soon, just the thought of being able to focus on what I want (basically careers) when 2017 hits has me excited. I have to thank you for helping to keep me interested this year as our chats have been great fun and your saves have been inspiring! Our Twitter group chat brought about my Celtic save which I'm still undecided on posting, I want to don't get me wrong but it's a lot to post in a short time frame haha.

As it stands you're second/third (depends if you count individual threads or by member) on the all time views this year for careers, I'm not gunna just hand over top spot in 2017 without a fight :P. I really want to help bring the careers forum back to its best next year but I'll need help from everyone here! The game might not be the best but it still gives us the tools for some fun saves so I'm pretty excited!

Your careers were incredibly inspiring and wonderfully unique. You mention the word legend but I think you've defined and exampled yourself as a legend on this site. Your content has been nothing but exemplary and you've consistently dedicated yourself to the cause.

I applaud thee; you're a hero. Thank you.
