Help Promoting a coach

This is a bit old but since coaches were introduced in fmm16 but I never quite understood the part where you can promote the coach to an assistant manager. If I do this, would he still be coaching players and improving their attributes?

Yes he still has an impact towards players.

Oh ok, so I guess it's best to always find one coach and promote them to assistant manager. But what good are assistant managers for? All this time I've never used them.

And is there any reason to choose a particular coach to promote for the task? If they all have gold badges, do I pick the older and possibly wiser one?

Tbh I'm not sure what difference they have impact wise, maybe see which of your coaches has had a positive impact on the most players?

Ah I have no idea what assistant managers do to begin with.. I can see an option for them to loan out reserve players but wouldn't it be better if I manually offered players for loaning to clubs? Since it sounds like they only place them on the loan list.

Assistant managers are there to take over if you go on holiday or if you leave the club, I like the choice because you can make retired players coaches and bring the up to the gold level and the promote them.

Its  quite a nice feature to have to be honest.

In all my careers on fmm I have never had a coach change badge colour even though I have had very successful teams. What am I doing wrong?

You have to manually make them take the coaching exam to advance to a gold badge.  Scouts/physios don't have exams so you just have to hire gold badge ones.

@slambo Go onto the coaches profile and at the bottom theres a choice which says "Take exam" or something like that.

Did try that a couple of times without success so just waited till I could attract a gold coach.

Please check the "Aptitude" of coach, "Natural" is easy to pass the exam, and "poor" will be difficult.

Assmen do quite a lot of small chores, actually.

-They rate the youth prospects coming through your academy; having a gold assman who is adept at rating youngsters can help you decide whom to promote
-They rate your current players (coach reports), again: a better coach means more accurate ratings
-they keep tabs on internationals and help you select your team (I believe that you can't auto-choose your team if you don't have an assman)

Always went for the natural unless it is down to my impatience.
