"Tottenham Hotspurs problems have worsened with the injury of their star striker Harry Kane. Kane has been ruled out for the season with a knee injury adding to the long list of Spurs treatment list".

"Kane joins fellow strikers Vincent Janssen, Clinton N'Jié and Kazaiah Sterling on the sidelines for the season".

"Tottenham Hotspur have signed former striker Robbie Keane on a one year deal. The 35 year old joins the club after manager Mauricio Pochettino declared a 'Striker Crisis' on Wednesday".

Can Keane fill in for the clubs injured strikers and provide Spurs with a successful season?

Keane's Targets:

  • 30 Goals in all competitions
  • At least 9 League Goals (to total 100 League Goals for Spurs)
  • Win domestic silverware (BPL, FA Cup or EFL Cup)

Comment below, do you think Keane can reach his target of 30 goals this season?

His pace is a slight worry but he still looks very much capable netting 30+ for you.

Love the flavor on this one too. Goodluck!

Yes that was my worry too @BatiGoal, his stats are also decreasing gradually. I have faith in him though, thanks for the comments.

UPDATE ONE

IMG_5150.thumb.PNG.a31f64528d4358bcdd8433c3f904757a.PNG

After a slow start Keane has started to bag some goals. After 8 Premier League games he has now scored 5 goals. He has also scored 2 goals in 3 Champions League games.

Here is who his goals have come against...

IMG_5143.thumb.PNG.29c434a6746e72becbcc18087c13dd0d.PNG

Keanes first goal back in a Spurs shirt!

IMG_5145.thumb.PNG.5bef8608035517b72d3edb25845cba88.PNG

Robbie bags an early goal against Sunderland!

IMG_5146.thumb.PNG.e19e883c6316a3a8e2a064c52860be9f.PNG

Keane bags a hat-trick against Premier League Champions Leicester City!!

IMG_5147.thumb.PNG.d0303b9c2e96d21fbb1c2a8dcbf1623c.PNG

Arguably Keane's best performance against Barcelona in the Champions League. (Side note: Messi was a mile offside!)

IMG_5149.thumb.PNG.f830e6c5e2e63402c73f39156e0c348d.PNG

Keane's stats are slowly decreasing but I have confidence that we can eventually hit our target!! ⚽️

Yeah, he'll do it for sure! Hang in there Robbie! :)

Keane is one of my favourite players. I remember signing him way back in Championship Manager 00/01. I had Shearer, Viduka, Owen and Keane all playing for Newcastle... Great times!

Great start, his stats dropping are a worry, but I'm sure a rebel like Keane can hang in there

He'll probably net 30+ just to spite anyone who's ever doubted him

Thanks @scratch99. I've always loved Keane too, he was incredible back on the old Championship Managers, however I never took him away from Spurs. It was good to manage Ireland back then too ??

Thank you @Taff, yeah his stats are becoming a worry but he's played 90 minutes every game so far and hasn't had know fitness/injury problems. Touch wood he battles until the end of the season!

Yeah I'd go along with that, I know there are a few Liverpool fans that have doubted him over the years after his short spell there.

UPDATE TWO

IMG_5266.thumb.PNG.3418b0069f588d468e731154caaf01f4.PNG

20 games into his return to the Lane, Robbie Keane has scored 6 goals in 13 Premier League games. He has also found succes in front of goal in the Champions League scoring 2 in 5 games.

8 matches on from the previous update, Robbie has only managed the one goal, but what a huge goal it was. Coming in the North London Derby against Arsenal. Keane started the comeback which earned Spurs a share of the points.

IMG_5262.thumb.PNG.c673fecdcacf6324203b96738b754f22.PNG

Keane has been a shadow of himself in the last 7 games, following the North London Derby. With his stats slowly decreasing can the Spurs legend make it to the end of the season still scoring goals?

IMG_5263.thumb.PNG.f37c65279b58ae0e7aa0614d93cec34e.PNG

Keane's pace has now dropped to 8, to put that into comparison, that's the same as Per Mertesacker! :O

IMG_5264.thumb.PNG.f459c8592ccfcdc5c759c0cf12ea2deb.PNG

8 goals in 20 games isn't at all bad, but his recent goal drought is a slight worry.

IMG_5265.thumb.PNG.c4acf33bdfc0b906483b932c0f70d231.PNG

Recent form shows it's not just Keane who's not performing. Spurs have failed to win in their last 6, after a tough run of fixtures. The lack of goals and creativity is starting to worry me.

Can Keane help get Spurs back on track?

UPDATE 3

IMG_5287.thumb.PNG.9255d07a3bd74f167dd627367d9d2733.PNG

Robbie Keane has lost his shooting boots, they were last seen at White Heart Lane against Arsenal 17 games ago! If anyone has any information please inform the club, thanks.

IMG_5279.thumb.PNG.7240ac5ee174266f9489fee46b5c3344.PNG

He's also refusing to score....

IMG_5280.thumb.PNG.73dcb34ed673de9ec94fc28ccfd15bc7.PNG

Keane obviously fancies another year, I don't think his legs are thinking the same..

IMG_5281.thumb.PNG.4b36b269767d249f479eda9063b97ea8.PNG

Pace up to 9, Stamina to 14 and Movement to 13. I changed the training and apparently he's now getting better?

IMG_5282.thumb.PNG.d68574a85ea5d7dc568491f4a3d733ee.PNG

8 in 30 overall, with an average rating of 7.03. On paper he is not doing too bad.

IMG_5284.thumb.PNG.bae6c5f403fc9bd3001175fd5e86ff5e.PNG

Again his form shows he is not performing, 7s and 6s with no goals or assists in his last 6 games.

IMG_5285.thumb.PNG.cb747e1114bc10b02deb5b81ff3d13d7.PNG

Keane also has no role traits, I hadn't checked his before but I expected him to have something?

IMG_5286.thumb.PNG.ae10cfa91381eeeb5d9097690164eb19.PNG

Coach report showing Keane lacks pace, poor ariel presence and can't shoot from distance.

IMG_5288.thumb.PNG.f73eb48085230138d5d4c51ed05ea22d.PNG

I have been playing around with tactics to help out Keane but the team have suffered. Must have hit the nail on the head with the 433 prior to the Man City/West Brom games.

That's one damaging goal drought! As I was catching up I didn't think he was doing too bad but not scoring for two updates is a worry! Hopefully you can turn it around mate.

UPDATE FOUR

IMG_5304.thumb.PNG.c6eeab6c74b0ab67a91db90e0850d987.PNG

Robbie Keane finally scores one!! The target is rapidly disappearing now, it all started off well but has gone annoyingly downhill. At this stage it looks like we will be hoping for 10 at least!! Come on Robbie!!

IMG_5291.thumb.PNG.020e6a32e3e077bbe373584fd590fda8.PNG

Keane's equaliser against Sunderland is his first goal in 26 games :O

IMG_5297.thumb.PNG.6b206e9c9f9bb2394e5d336b92472034.PNG

Some stats decreasing again as Keane looks well of the pace of Premier League football.

IMG_5298.thumb.PNG.42faeadbfe2d8cbc01868393f07a63e3.PNG

9 goals in 40 games with an average rating of 6.92. Can Robbie turn this around?

IMG_5299.thumb.PNG.7e471b7e2c7a644cb9a0f7f40d15f322.PNG

Keane has now become a selfish player...

IMG_5300.thumb.PNG.a812fe368af077df205feb85b04e0e9e.PNG

His form is not much different to the last update, however the squad has dramatically improved.

IMG_5303.thumb.PNG.461d80b401549fb82a9f4b410ae4fd9d.PNG

IMG_5292.thumb.PNG.577e79dcb04038bb8209d10248bfe315.PNG

Heung-Min Son is the second highest scorer in the league playing on the wing for Spurs. Lamela, Dembele and Eriksen have also provided goal. Dele Alli has had an injury hit season.

IMG_5302.thumb.PNG.4a9e88f0501ae2af7bb06c731439fee7.PNG

IMG_5301.thumb.PNG.6be47046bcecd60f29be45c2accd3188.PNG

Recent form has improved a lot, with another change in formation. Currently sitting 3rd in the Premier League, 3 points behind rivals Arsenal.

IMG_5290.thumb.PNG.7aa0412c3bd732b98fda610a2f963238.PNG

We have reached the EFL Cup final where we will play Manchester United. Can Keane put a stop to Spurs long wait for silverware?

IMG_5296.thumb.PNG.a3989c57d9f074e2d8b50962ad25bfb2.PNG

We have also drawn rivals Arsenal in the Fifth Round of the Emirates FA Cup.

In the next update:

  • Europa League First Round Knockout matches
  • Emirates FA Cup Fifth Round vs Arsenal
  • EFL Cup Final vs Man United
  • Premier League games vs Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man United, Boro and Bournemouth.

Let me know what you think of this career so far? Disappointing? Enjoyable?

Thanks for reading guys ??

I know @Ashez, I was worrying that he wouldn't score again. Luckily he has scored in the fourth update but I can't see him hitting 30 now, it would be a huge turnaround if he did!

That goal drought is a worry indeed. Hope you find a way for him to regain his form. Come on Keane!

It sure is @BatiGoal, I've changed formation and tried something different. It's got him to score once in the last update, let's hope its gives him to momentum to go and score more!

Wow, that went down hill quickly... :(

It can be tricky when they are at that age. The formation and tactics become real important and it's hard to work that out on the fly in a single season. Maybe you'll learn something that you can use next time to keep him scoring longer. Anyway, keep on going and see how far you can get him (he's a legend either way!).

I would say a special training regime and playing him as a part of 3-striker formation (we all know that making formation with 2 strikers work is almost impossible) should help the case, as well as resting him properly - treat him just like youngsters! :P

Hi @arobbo92 this is an interesting attempt, do you mind me trying but with a different team, Chelsea, Man Utd for example, just to see if I can make it possible?

Of course @Cockers2505, it's open for anyone to try it. I would be interested how he would get on with other teams. Good luck ??

It certainly did @scratch99, surprised me at the start with him scoring twice against Barcelona and bagging a hat trick at Leicester, now he can't find the goal

Yeah it's been difficult to fit him into a system to get him the chances. It's suggests he's a defensive forward which doesn't scream goals to me. My inside forwards are getting into positions he should be and getting the goals. He is always a legend!

Thats similar to what I'm playing @44_veezy, however the point was that he was the only striker at the club. If this was a full career I would be resting him a lot more, he just seems well of the pace of the Premier League at the moment. Always coming very deep even set as a Advanced Forward or Poacher.

When I was limping towards 1K with an aging striker, I had to rest him occasionally to keep him fresh (seems counter intuitive to give him the odd game off, but he actually scored more). For tactics, I went with a 2 5 3 with him as a poacher and two DLFs, one on either side of him - they still got more goals than him, but we scored so many that he got his share. Obviously on Penalty duty and free kicks too. Can't remember much else to be honest!

I'd definitely be playing Keane as a Poacher at this age, no matter what the game suggests. That should mean he doesn't have to run as much, just hang around and score! :)

Anyway, I hope you get him scoring again, though as you say, might be too late to reach the target..

Hi @arobbo92 I attempted with Chelsea but didn't do to well all round, my tactic worked for Keane but not for the team, anyway I tried him as a seasoned Poacher, playing him as a single striker, but he does pick up to many injuries, I put him on a Fitness for a couple of weeks every so often to bring up his stamina, and it worked.

IMG_0739.thumb.PNG.2560f33caf6c5dfc9271014e37a21b3e.PNG

As you can see it was close, not bad for a 36 year old in the premiership...

good to have a go, thanks for sharing, I might try with other teams as well as Spurs...
